We want to thank you for allowing MRW Lawns, Inc. to provide an estimate for your lawn care needs. We know deciding on a lawn care company can be a daunting task, especially if you have no experience caring for a lawn. It can be like going to a mechanic for a problem with your car. You are at their mercy to tell you what’s wrong and how to fix it. We want to make choosing a lawn care company a little easier to do, so we compiled a list of 7 “must ask” questions.
7 Things You Need to Consider Before Choosing a Lawn Care Company
1) Are they licensed in Your State? In Maryland and Virginia, you have to be a Licensed Pest Control Applicator as well as a Licensed Professional
Fertilizer Applicator.
2) Do they have a good reputation online? Check online reviews from independent sites such as Google and Yelp. Other online websites containing crowd-sourced reviews of local businesses, such as Angie’s List, are also valuable resources.
3) Who will be directly responsible for your account? Typically, the person with whom you sign the contract with is not the person with whom you will be dealing. At the least, they should be part of a team working with you caring for your lawn.
4) Do they test the soil? A soil test is a series of tests done on a soil sample to check the pH level, organic content and nutrient status of a lawn. A soil test is like a “physical exam” for a yard. It shows what shape the soil is in and what corrective applications, if any, are needed for the grass. Without a soil test, you are unable to customize a lawn program for your lawn’s specific needs. You will get treated like every other lawn.
5) Do they offer all the services necessary to establish and maintain your lawn? Some lawns take more than just fertilizer and weed control to become established. Some lawns need renovation which requires special seeding machines, not just aerators and dethatchers. Those machines are great for mostly full and full lawns but to truly fill in a thin and bare lawn requires a Slice Seeder. Also, soil conditions in our area are generally poor and require Lime and Organic Compost to become established.
6) Do they service other lawns in your area? You want to make sure you are not the only customer they have in your area. You may get pushed to the end of the line due to your distance away from their nearest customer.
7) How long have they been in business? Startup companies are admirable; however, you want to work with someone with experience caring for lawns in your area.
3 Reasons Why You Should Choose MRW Lawns, Inc.
1) MRW Lawns, Inc. has been establishing and maintaining lawns in your area since 1988. We are a small, locally owned business, and we are licensed in both Maryland and Virginia.
2) When you sign up with MRW Lawns, Inc., we take a soil sample from your lawn for testing. The results typically take 2-3 weeks to be completed. When we receive the results, we will mail you a copy with an explanation of the findings. The soil test allows us to customize your lawn care program to meet your lawns specific needs. It also allows us to make specific recommendations for Lime and Organic Matter.
3) Your Account Manager is part of a 5 to 6-person team working with you directly to establish and maintain your lawn. He will revisit with you mid-season to do a Lawn Evaluation making sure the lawn is on track. He will also make recommendations to make sure we are meeting your expectations.
Throughout the year, your Customer Service Representative will touch base with you to make sure the service is going well. During late summer, we will want you to get together with your Account Manager again to do a Lawn Evaluation and discuss fall seeding services.
We hope this gives you a good understanding of what you can expect when working with us. Please keep in mind if your lawn is in need of renovation, or is in poor shape, it may take 2-3 years before it becomes established. You will see results as we progress through the year, but in some cases, you may see the lawn take a step back as we battle the weeds and crabgrass to try and get them under control. It’s not uncommon for a lawn to become thinner as we rid it of weeds however this will make for less competition for new grass to fill in. A good fall seeding will help with that.
